Topics

Within the framework of the International Conference WAPO2 the following topics will be discussed:

Alternative methods and indicators of water quality in natural porous media.

(i)

New methodologies for characterizing pollution levels and contamination hazards (methods other than classical physical-chemical approaches)

(ii)

Indicator approaches for assessing water quality and for supporting decision making in water management

(iii) Cost-effective monitoring schemes for water quality

Biogeochemical processes from soil to groundwater.

(i) Sorption, mobility and persistence of pollutants in a natural environment
(ii) Complexity of reactions that pollutants undergo in soils and groundwater
(iii) Role of organic matter and micro-organisms
(iv) Laboratory experiments, their design and comparability
(v) Evaluation of experimental results regarding their transferability to field sites at different scales

Numerical simulation of pollutant transport and interaction in soil and subsoil techniques, problems and case study.

(i) Numerical simulations concerning D/L NAPLs contamination: source localization and quantification, source mobility
(ii) Reactive transport models addressing contaminant mobility and interactions in soils and groundwater.
